Whether it is a short-film, an audio play, a stop-motion animation or a podcast, MED Theatre love to work with young people in creating digital media and arts.
With top of the range equipment, we are able to work on projects with all ages starting from Key Stage 2 and above – including College and University groups.
To discuss bespoke courses in digital media, email us at education@medtheatre.co.uk.
The MED Theatre team will mentor the group through devising and writing a screenplay inspired by a relevant subject matter of your choice, or a local myth or legend. We will then teach students to use our camera equipment, to direct, to perform on camera and, if chosen as an additional session, to edit the footage.
At the end of the course MED Theatre will provide both a hard and digital copy of the final product.
You can see a selection of our films, created with schools and groups of young people on our school films page (just click here).
The audio play process begins with the collaborative plotting and writing of a script inspired by a relevant subject of your choice or a local myth or legend. Students will then be mentored through the recording process (including voice acting, directing and technical skills) and given some insight into the editing process too. There is also an additional option for the creation of music to accompany the play.
MED Theatre will provide both a digital and hard copy of the final product.
To begin the process of creating a podcast, the group will be asked to discuss a locally relevant subject matter that they are passionate about, or that has been chosen by the teacher. They will then be guided through the plotting of the podcast episode and shown how to carry out the recording (including voice recording, directing and technical skills). There will also be an opportunity for any musicians to create music to accompany the recorded discussions and for the group to have an insight into the editing process.
In both audio play and podcast creation,
Wolf Whispers – Audio play created with Wild Nights Young Company
The Tinner of The Redbrook – Audio play created with students at Hatherleigh Primary School

Either in one large group or in smaller divisions, the students will be guided through the creation of short stories and the writing of a script (where suitable). They will then be shown how to create a simple stop-motion play using their own personal technology or school equipment using a simple app or editing footage. This is a particularly good project for Art students and a variety of artforms can be used for creating the animation.
MED Theatre will provide both a digital and hard copy of the final product.
The shadow-play process will begin with the sharing of a Dartmoor or Devon myth or legend. The group will then be mentored through transforming the myth into a short script or series of directions for puppetry, before the puppet-making process begins. Once we have our puppets prepared, the MED Theatre team will teach the group how to create a shadow play including the performance, technical and recording elements. There will also be an option for additional time to be given to the composition of music for the play.
MED Theatre will provide both a digital and hard copy of the final product.
