‘The Rib’, performed to a sold out audience on Nov 19th 2011, was a brand new dark comedy written by playwright Vanessa McCartney especially for MED Theatre. Now a writer based in Cheltenham, Vanessa previously lived on the west edge of Dartmoor where she developed ‘The Rib’ in conjunction with MED Theatre’s artistic director Mark Beeson as mentor. The small cast of seven actors brought to life this darkly humorous story, inspired by research into the early writings of the Reverend Sabine Baring-Gould which documented wife-selling on Dartmoor in Victorian times.
